When WSWS journalists contacted teamster offices at the local and national levels for details on the collective agreement, they were either given an overview or were generally told that the union was not publishing this information. The only “concession” that the workers seem to have obtained from the company is that the contract will last three years, instead of the five initially required by Swissport. Throughout the strike, the trade union bureaucracy kept the workers in the dark about their negotiations with Swissport, while doing everything in its power to limit the struggle to the most restrictive framework of collective bargaining. “We did our best to reach an acceptable agreement with the company. Swissport just wasn`t interested,” Harjinder Badial, vice president of Teamsters Local 419, said in a press release.
